I wondering if that's "wrapper" damage with the lower arc on the obverse? Tell us more about it...

I don't know wrapper damage, but I don't think it is from what I just read about it. On both sides of the bust, the line goes right along the upper edge and then keeps going out into the field. It comes out off of the coin, not a scratch into the surface. I thought it was a die break or something.

Also, tell us about the long vertical mark running across the coin in front of the nose.

As far as I can tell, that line is toning. With a loupe, it doesn't appear to be a gouge or scrape. It changes color with the toning of the general area, too. As you can see in one of the photos, right by the nose it is reddish in a patch of reddish. Above that it is blueish in a patch of blueish.

Not sure why it toned a line but that is what it seems to be.

After all that stuff, hopefully die break and hopefully toning, any thoughts on the grade?

I like the toning. A ding or two on the eagle's left leg and (upper) right wing.

Doubling on the W of IGWT? See second obverse photo.

Hi all,

I finally sent in some coins and this quarter you were helping me with came back MS66 from NGC. The luster was very strong in hand, and I wish they rounded it up to + or 67, but I'll take it.

Also, there is a 3rd image of a 1949-D that I found on ebay that has the same die break (almost) as mine. I'm assuming it's a die break because wrapper damage would never yield a 66 grade.

Thanks for the opinions.
N.
