Hey Everything,

I just came across a 1992 D penny that looks like the neck is starting to detach. Is this fairly common?

Thanks

TheNewGuy to the CCF!

I am new to identifying errors.

I will take a guess at it and say it is a strike through.

Strike through of that shape are common but it is in an interesting spot.

That's the neatest penny I've ever seen. If he had been assassinated via knife to the throat you'd be onto something.

Looks like someone sliced his throat on this coin. PSD. Note on the first closeup image you can see the wave of the metal where is was diverted when the cut on the coin happened. It was done carefully. Why could this not be a mint error? Nothing during the striking process could make this happen. It would have to be a raised area on the die, to make an incuse mark on the coin. This happened after the strike.
