Hi guys , I have this old coin that appears to be silver but I can not work out what it is, I think it maybe Arabic, only because of the O type thing in the center, I have seen this on a few Arabic coins but it maybe Asian I just don`t know.

Hoping someone can shed some light on it . Thank you in advance for all help. PS my pics maybe hard to see I'm not real good at it , I'm pretty old and my sight isn't the best.

@sweetap, I agree that this looks like an Arabic number 5 in the center of the coin. Perhaps you have a 5 Qirsh from Egypt? Here is a numista link to get you started:

There just isn't quite enough detail coming through in these pics for me to be able to help you more.

No prob at all. For coin identification, the free "coinoscope" app is actually pretty good. Here is a link to a previous CCF thread where I discuss it: http://goccf.com/t/361606

Of course, we don't ever want computers to replace us completely, so please keep posting your mystery coins here.

OH wow thank you again. It will be very helpful.
With that bit of info you gave me I was able determine exactly what it is and its date and composition.

Nickle Copper 1293 29 1903. This is what it all means.

The coin shown is a 5/10 qirsh, composition copper-nickel, from the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. The obverse bears the toughra, or signature, of the sultan, with the year of issue written below (as in year during the reign of the sultan, in this case year 29). A flower design is to the right of the toughra. The reverse carries peripheral text including the phrase 'minted in Misr'. The large arabic 5 in the center symbolizes the fraction over 10 (5/10, or 1/2). Below this is the ascension year of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, AH 1293. The date of the coin translates to 1903 AD. Uslu[1] lists this issue as scarce.

This denomination represents a member of a coinage reform started in 1884 AD. Previous to that date, with a value less than one qirsh were given in the unit 'para'. All fractional qirshes after 1884 were given values directly proportional to one qirsh, e.g. 1/40 qirsh, 1/20 qirsh, 1/10 qirsh, 2/10 qirsh, etc. This suite of denominations was continued until the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, and subsequent loss of influence in Egypt, in 1914 AD

Again Thank you so much , with out your info I was clueless.

No mobile, eh? Well I think that the coinoscope app is only for a smart phone, so maybe that isn't very useful for your situation. in any case, you will just need to keep posting here on CCF.
