Need some help understanding the story on this note. Is in rough shape but yellow/brown seal and SN's for a 1935C is not catalogued. I have read that there is an "ink turns brown in circulation" error for 1935C but that does not explain the gold back. Anyone ever see one like this?

Not an error note. Chemically or environmentally damaged. The seal and serial numbers on the face were once blue and the back was green. The note should look like this.

A so-called "false error".

Thanks for the inputs. Agree that environmental damage is the logical conclusion. Years under sunlight if a bill was framed ( as in first dollar earned ) would explain the change in seal and serial number coloration. But why just that ink? Why wouldn't the entire front be bleached out?

And that wouldn't explain the total and evenly distributed change to a different color on the back.

This bill came from a high quality collection that I purchased from an estate ... so unfortunately I am unable to ask the original collector why he took the pains to hang onto it.

All other thoughts and theories welcomed.

I'm not convinced it's sun damage. Typically a framed note will only see fading on the face. The different colored inks are formulated differently from each other and react differently to chemicals.

Tell us more about the High Quality Collection...post some great notes.

Sure ... here are pics of two woodchoppers that were in the collection. Pretty sure the Star on the 1869 has no impact on value ... at least that was the way that I valued the note. The 1907 is in particularly nice condition.
