Gold spot drops through the floor yet prices skyrocket for AGEs the very same week? Sounds like typical US Mint behavior these days. However, it does seem to be pretty close to their published pricing matrix.

Once upon a time I would buy the annual 1/10th oz AGE but those days are history with these prices. $240 for 1/10 ounce? Are they insane?

2019:
1/10th oz AGE: $187.50
Approx spot of Ag at time of release: $1,300

2020:
1/20th oz AGE: $240.00 (+28%)
Approx spot of Ag at time of release: $1,480 (+12%)

According to the U.S. Mint site, they set their pricing based on spot the week prior. So, in theory, if I were to wait a week, the price would be adjusted down. Still far too pricey.

I will search for them on the secondary market in a couple years.

It's even worse than that, as the US Mint recently changed, i.e., increased, the 2020 pricing grid as well. The new grid was announced in the March 18th Federal Register.

Prices from a 2020 grid I downloaded on 2/24/2020 (Au spot in the 1500-1550 range)

1/10 ozt - Bullion 207.50 , PRF - 255
$5 Commemorative - BU 475, PRF 485

Prices from a 2020 grid I downloaded today, 3/20/2020 (Au spot in the 1500-1550 range)

1/10 ozt - Bullion 240, PRF- 270
$5 Commemorative - BU 590.50, PRF 600.50

I had to triple check to believe that the nearly 25% increase in the commemorative pricing was real

I am out of the market (direct-from-mint anyway) of gold commemoratives at those prices as well.

The good news is there will be more money in my pocket this year to invest in silver (assuming any of the PM dealers get silver back in any time soon).

Agreed. Funny you brought this up as I saw a 2016 1/10 oz. not a week ago sell for $216.00 on ebay. Missed it by one dollar. So perhaps it's best to wait for them on the secondary market.
