Hello fellow collectors, I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy in these troubled times!
Today I received this 1839/1 8 Reales in the mail and right off the bat I started noticing inconsistencies and oddities.
The specs are 26.6 grams 37mm oriented ^^ and it is non-magnetic
The Cap and Rays obverse is what I would call swollen. The ends of the rays show a notable raised area from one to the next especially at approximately 9-12 o'clock. Perhaps the die could have been worn?
It also has adjustment marks on the reverse that the design was struck over as noted in the photos. (see the snake below eagle and above cactus). There is also a die crack visible which to me rules out any casting and the edge is correct.
What sticks out the most is the fact that the diameter is off by approximately 1.9mm and the rays go clear to the edge. The second obviously being how raised the design of the obverse is, and third the orientation.
What are the chances I have a modern forgery, contemporary counterfeit or just an unusual period authentic coin?
