Fabulous coin. I am envious. I would never attempt to grade this coin from on screen pictures. As such, I would be very happy to simply accept the professional Third Party Grading opinion. Why? With the patina that this coin has, it is almost impossible to assess how many and how significant are any tiny nicks and hairline scratches there may be. A TPGrader had the advantage of examining this coin in the raw, hand held, using the best lighting from many angles, with assistance of a 10x loupe. We don't. All we have is on screen pictures.

Beautiful! I'd like to one day own a nice set of colorful barber proofs, but too much of my money is diverted to my type set, so I'm forced to pass for now.

Beautiful coin. The photos clearly show lots of tiny contact marks on the obverse which account for the 62 grade. That low grade gave you the opportunity to score exceptional eye appeal for (presumably) a good price. Nice pick-up!

Thanks all. @Jaobler. That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw it. I had a raw one years ago with great eye appeal. I regretted it as soon as I parted ways with it even though more circulated than this coin...I saw this 1896 and immediately thought of my mistake years ago and saw the chance to make up for it and add a graded one back to the collection without paying thousands for a better graded coin without breaking the bank... with potentially less eye appeal. The eye appeal outweighed the lower grade on this one.

I'm a sucker for toned silver, and that reverse is spectacular!

Absolutely gorgeous! Honestly think that is a bit under graded.
