Not dropped letter. Struck through dropped letter. If it is it could be a one of a kind! For this to happen it would have to be one of the first or the first struck? Right?
Thinking more about this. This could be the D from any coin that popped off after strike but was left in the chamber, then struck into your coin and later falling off. Anyone follow?

It looks like a well crafted counter stamp to me!

I highly doubt it's a counterstamp, but it's just my honest opinion.

A pic of the reverse would help to see if it is PMD

I can't see any deformation in the area opposite the dropped letter. I think it's the real deal. Nice one

Thank you all for your time an expertise. U run around all day, build up a pocket full of "spend it" pocket change.. U get home go thru the "spend it" then your heart drops, maybe I got something here. One thing I've learned is take a chill pill. 99.9% of the time it's most likely a "spend it".. this cool piece, wow thanks !!

The Denver Mint switched from vertical strike Bliss coining presses to horizontal strike Schuler presses in 2005. This coin would have been struck in the Schuler press. Does that affect the analysis of this coin?

Really hard to determine a value but if you do a " Washington quarter error coin" search on the bay or Heritage Auctions you may find something close. To me, maybe worth $5-$10. Not a lot of references for comparison, so others might put more value on it. I wonder if this coin in this thread might be related to yours? http://goccf.com/t/73104
