Since it's a later die state, I would think these are die erosion pits.

I'm gonna take a shot and say the bottom thing is an air bubble and the top of the 9 is post mint damage. It looks as if it's taken a hit by something.

It's a die crack - very common for 1952 mintmarked cents.
