I'll say MS-65 as well. Knockout.

66/65 (star), that's probably the best toning I've ever seen on a nickel.

Thanks all! Hate to use the term cherry picked this one, but I did. Just got it back today from NGC today, picked up this one with about 25 other MS buffs, most teens along with a 1916 d Merc.
Going to post grade later today, curious if fortcollins has any input on this one. Only thing I'll say is I might be resending this one for a regrade to PCGS

Reveal time. Not sure yet if I'll send to PCGS for a crossover and see how it goes.

I totally disagree . 63* would display a few dings or chatter . I don't see any issues with this coin . I'll stick with my MS-66 .

Agreed. Strong obverse, especially for the weekly struck era. The reverse is a couple dings on the ground above " five cents" and light contact marks on the buffalo, but very very light. Obverse contact marks are almost non existent and definitely carry this coin. From what I've been seeing from NGC recently I expected them to be tight on it, but was hoping for 64 Minimum. Reverse is a 63 on a bad day and obverse is a solid 65/66 IMO.

I suspect they thought the toning might be questionable but gave you the benefit of the doubt...plus a star! The surfaces of the coin do not have the "flash" needed for a higher grade. The area of the upper left shoulder of the Buffalo hurts the coin, too.
Would PCGS give you a higher grade? They might give you a 64 but I don't think they'll give you anything higher than 64. Why add more money into the coin? The color is what will sell it down the road.
The coin is what it is.

Good point WS, it is a lack luster in the luster department. Thanks for the input!
