Was going thru some coins and noticed this interesting DDD on the reverse on this 1938-S Cent.

That is indeed very interesting Die Deterioration Doubling.

Looks like the very edge of that die was fried! Cool cent.

Extreme die wear beginning on the die that struck this coin. Note the devices starting to walk towards the rim and the die flow starting. Just entering into the VLDS die state. Oh, but it get worse as the die continues to age even more:

You can see on this one the devices are already on the rim. The die flow, now looks like a swamp at this point. Just part of the aging process.
