Hi
I recently bought 3 Morgan dollars at auction for a reasonable price. They are in very good condition. I want to send them for grading but want to make sure they haven't been cleaned. does any one have an opinion from the pics posted?

to the CCF!

The images need to be much larger, sharply focused and cropped. You also need to rotate the images so that the are oriented correctly. It's really hard to tell anything from the pics you posted.

I took these newer pics with my canon camera. the previous pics were with my I Phone. Let me know if they are any better. The coins look AU. That make me wonder if they were cleaned.

Seems like a fairly common coin with little upside for grading

The coin you posted is actually a 1904-O Morgan dollar, not a 1904. As for grading, I think you would be better off leaving this one raw. Between grading fees, shipping, and insurance, you're going to spend a lot to get it in a slab, and you likely won't get your money back if you decide to sell later on. Nice coin!

I don't see any obvious signs of cleaning, but I agree that the value of the coin wouldn't justify the grading fee.

Thank you all. I picked up three of these Morgan's at an online auction at just over the spot price. They were so nice I thought they had been dipped in something. I am happy to know they are in their natural state and glad I can be their new caretaker for a while.

They are a nice piece of history to have Chilidogdave....and you're right...we all are just their caretakers for a while....but it still is an important job!

It's actually quite common to see Morgan dollars in this condition. They made a lot more than they really needed, so most of the coins just sat in bank vaults for decades. In fact, there's even a few Morgans that have graded as high as MS-69.
