I have this 1946 D LWC at about a VF-35 BN. Looking at all MMs for RPMs and OMMs, because COVID... ;) This looks, at lower magnification, like it has a full D north of the MM between the 9 and the 4, and an oversized S NE. Closer magnification, the extra D seems to go AWOL but a normal-sized S MM with a trumpet tail shows up NW, right next to the 9. Even closer magnification, the S seems to still be there NW of the D. There are no 1946 D&S listed to my knowledge. Does anyone else see what I see, and could it actually be a D&S?

Nothing in the areas you mention. It could be Pareidolia on my part but I took your image and marked it up with red. It is probably damage since this is a well-circulated coin but take a look at this area and tell us what you see or add clear closeups if you can. Thanks.

I was wondering if that diagonal line at the bottom of the real MM was something or not. Haven't gotten there yet - I'm fixated on those S images. Here's a shot with the two S images I am imagining I am seeing... or not... The NW S is MMS-004 and the NE S is MMS-007

Time to rest your eyes for awhile. I do not see a RPM or a OMM. John1

If it were an over mintmark, it would be raised, not incuse: Just a well placed contact mark.

They are there... but they are not OMM. This coin has PMD but I also see a lot of die damage. I see cracks, breaks, chips, clashes and possible counterclashes. I see what appears to be "liberty" on the right side of the coin, and I think the S I was wondering about is really an S from the die damage, clash or counterclash... Here are a couple of uncropped pics, in case the cropping and resizing combined out of Irfanview reduced the resolution too much on the others. And as requested, new closeup of D focused as sharply as I can get. Looks like that line is a counterclash. Full obverse shot showing all sorts of clash/counterclash evidence. The rev shows signs of rotated clash marks too.
