My coin club has a show scheduled for the end of May. The big debate now, and it is being done remotely since we cannot meet, is will it be possible, and will anyone attend? The situation will answer the first part. Will people attend a show in May is what I am asking the members here.

I'd be willing to go, no problem, as long as the OK has been given in my area and any and all suggestions and guidelines given by the health officials are followed. I'm one of those who thinks we're going to have to get back to normal eventually, so as long as everyone plays by the rules, I'm game.

There is no answer to your question(s).

We are something like 5 to 6 weeks away from the date of your show.

But we can inform ourselves by looking backward five weeks.

5 weeks ago where I am, life was still normal, and we were just starting to hear about this illness taking hold in places pretty far from here. Five weeks ago in my state we had 4 confirmed cases of the disease. We now have ONE THOUSAND TIMES more than that.
(I only shouted because I thought it might be necessary).

So, any plan for 5 weeks from now mostly needs to take into account the volatility of the situation. You could be in a place where there is a feeling the disease is under control and people are starting to relax, and you get a good turnout.
You also could be in a place where the disease has recently gotten worse, and nobody shows.

Sorry.

I think that it may be relevant whether you cancel now or at the last moment only if there are financial penalties for waiting too long. Personally I think June at the earliest for a slow return to a new normal.

Thanks for the input. I am at one of the bad areas for the virus. We are watching other shows in the area, but have no idea if the situation improves will the economy be show ready. There is no down payment for the venue, but it is also our meeting venue so getting the people there upset also could have consequences.

By me all such shows have been cancelled untillllllllll.
Well no one really knows. I haven't been to a coin show in a long time now and don't plan on it for the near future either. I miss them but I would rather be alive than completing a collection.

My eternal optimism, which has slowly decayed over the past three years and change, would say the show must go on!

However, the cynic I have become says cancel now. We will not "return to normal" until June at best. Even then I think social distancing and large gatherings will be avoided by most until we have vaccine.
