I don't know if this has been posted before but I ran across this report from about five years ago. How'd you like to find this buried in your back yard?

The part about the coins starts at about the 1:10 mark

Alas the video is not available in Canada. But I love this sort of thing! Though sometimes when you open up the time capsule you discovery something different:

I am very skeptical of this news.
Check out this other video around 2:04 where Jim Axlerod says it was previously retrieved in 1855 and the contents, yes contents, were washed with acid.

They did say in the top video that it was opened previously, though no mention was made of the acid.

How can it be a "first look" if it was opened before?

That's in the second video.

They plan on putting it back in the building, so the state of preservation (or use of acid) isn't really pertinent.

Cool first video.

Unfortunate news in second video.
Can't believe they would open it and wash the coins in acid. Kind of makes me feel a little ill.

Great capsule though. Do people still bury them?

I thought it may have been reopened as the paper looked 19th century.

If it was 1795 you would see the long s on it. The silver plate had long s's on it. Also some of those coins looked perfectly round post 1831 and I am convinced there was a seated Liberty half in amongst them!

Still bloody interesting. Same thing happened here, in our 2011 earthquake in Christchurch, an 1867 statue toppled over and a time capsule was found from that year, but papers and coins from 1918 and 1933 were also found as the statue was moved in those years.
