I received this quarter as change at a store. Ive been collecting for a few years and have never seen this before. Its a 1999 quarter (date side unaffected) and queen side looks like the center of a toonie but not right thru as date side is unaffected. I will upload some pictures and hoping for any info would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Ray

P.S. I'm new to this site so be king. lol

Not the best pictures.
Is it possible that there was something glued to the obverse of the coin?

Thanks for the info.

I was also curious about how its almost a perfect circle.
but this is why I posted it here as I'm no expert just looking for info.

Also curious, if you look closely there's a rim or raise ridge around that circle.

Anyways maybe more can chime in but for now I'll have to pass it as someone put Acid on it.

Once again thanks for the help, guys.

P.S. since I have lots of free time on my hand at the moment, I have other coins I'll be posting that I have questions about

I agree with darryldarryl.
Something was glued to the coin and then removed.
It's made of pure nickel, unlikely acid did that damage.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Thanks for The Info.

I do believe the theory of something being glued on and then removed is definately more plausible than the acid theory.

just one thing is still a mystery to me is why there is a rim/ridge around the center part. although you cannot see it in the photo is that the center piece is slighter higher than rest of the coin. I tried to photograph that but I was unable to take a good photo. but the center piece is definately higher and like I said has a rim/ridge.

I uploaded one pic but still hard to show how the center piece is higher. In person you can see it and feel it. Once everything gets back to normal I'll go to the local coin shop to get it looked at before I spend it in the gum machine. lol

Whether it's glue or acid, it is what caused the center damage, the coin is worth 25 cents
