Hello all! New to CCF. I love this site. I've learned so much. So, that being said, here is my first post about a coin! I'm not great at photography of coins yet, but I hope this will be good enough to offer an opinion. I found this in a roll from the store. If it weren't so precise in certain areas, I would almost see it as a "Beach Coin" (I metal detect for fun and see a lot of corroded coins) These are actual voids where the edges and the number "3" was, as well as a tracing around Lincoln's face. There is a small hole on the columns of the Memorial on the Reverse. Thanks in advance.

@sg, first welcome to CCF. Second, your pics are fine. With regard to this coin, you are seeing some deterioration of the zinc core now that the copper plating is missing in spots.

The gray areas are the exposed zinc. The plating was removed from those areas of the coin. Its like is counting down. Not a good thing for a coin. Just a spender until it becomes a copper colored Hershey's kiss wrapper when the zinc is gone.

Thanks to everyone for the nice welcome and the great answers. As I mentioned, I have learned a lot from this site and I hope to learn a LOT more! I know how to look for die clashes (I have a mild one on a Quarter and one on a Penny) and have learned the difference between Machine Doubling and a "Real" Double Die. (I have one of those too!) It's just a great place to learn and have fun! Learning the subtle differences in things makes this a great resource! Thanks so much! Will post more stuff soon.

Would it be cheaper to make LMC's out of injection molded plastic?..... they would last longer! Already, lots of countries make their Notes out of plastic. And the most important money of all: credit cards !
