Run your math again. You are right that there would be almost no difference in weight, but the weight you came up with is way off. Edited by Conder101

I have examined this quarter and all the evidence suggests that the copper color was applied after the coin left the Mint. The edge is perfectly normal-looking, with an exposed copper core partially hid by cladding. A genuine improper annealing error would not preserve this pattern. The obverse is speckled with copper. This is also not compatible with an improper annealing error or any kind of planchet error. It's clearly not a missing clad error since the normal clad layer is exposed where the thin copper coating has been worn through or has been abraded.

not that I want this to seem about money, what is the value in the market place could this coin receive? The reason I ask is that after Coop's comments concerning the weak strike, I know a seller with a State Quarter that I think is similar. However I have no idea what kind of offer I should make. |

Don't feel bad, snoopy, it was a pretty convincing fake. Good learning experience if nothing else! Keep hunting, you'll find something that's the real deal.
