I think this might be a Cud or die chip but want to make sure.

Also, when anomalies such as this occur in Morgan or Peace dollars, they can be part of a sought-after VAM bringing in a nice premium.

Depending upon what this 1C has here does that type of similar VAM scrutiny equally apply to LHCs insofar as rarity and elevated premiums? I just did not see anything like this on the LHC variety sites.

There is a VAM-like-thing for these. This is a "BIE" error, a type of die chip that occurs in LIBERTY (typically between the B and E, making it read LIBIERTY). Although, there is typically only a small premium for these in high grades, if any.

Also, what are those rectangular shapes classified as extending upwards behind the 'I', 'B' and between the 'RT'?

@mdpmedia: For one reason or other, the same error or varieties could not compare from one coin denomination to other. It is complete normal and comprehensible. The premium is done in the most part of the time direct proportional with the collector's interest. Second, those pennies was stuck in mills and bills. Just think, which real collector will go to collect all the possibilities of errors or varieties? Answer: NONE. Then other factor it is the ability to find.

Yours's parallel with Morgan's and Peace dullard: I agrees with you deep thinking; but in the same time disagrees. Majority of Morgan and Peace coins was melt. The real numbers we will never have, not at this moment. So the probability to find is much more mince then those massive amount of the pennies, indifferent of the years.

So it is up to you to understand the market, the collectors interests and the marketing.
