Hi,
I'm fairly new to this, and brand new to the forum. Could someone help me grade this 1 cent coin I just bought? I can't seem to find any tips online specific to the Newfoundland George VI, lots for the Canadian version, but none for the NF, where he's wearing the crown.

Hi, Bert, and, Welcome to the forum.

Very nice coin, I would say looks like AU to me.

Thanks very much for your comments, I truly appreciate it.

A couple questions...The coin looks as if it may have been cleaned in the past, how much will this affect the value? Also, do you know of any online resources for grading Newfoundland coins?

Very good looking coin ya got there
It would be helpful if you posted both sided of the coin.
I would grade it AU maybe even MS.
Are you sure it as been cleaned?
From the pic it does not look like it has

Thank you Mr Whitman. I had assumed it was cleaned because there is still a fair amount of bright copper showing. I'll try to get better pics, and show both sides. This was in a lot of about 20 NF pennies that I bought 4 or 5 years ago. I think I paid $10.00 for the whole works. I'll have to take a closer look at some of the others now.

What a great resource this forum is! :)

definitely a cleaned coin:

- toning only in protected areas
- bright spots
- cleaning scratches behind the neck

please post a pic of the reverse and welcome to the forum!

One more question, (feel like I'm bugging everybody) How do you put a custom picture (Avatar) up in your profile? I see where I can select images of coins from the drop down list, but how do I add my own pic from a file, as I think, I've seen others on here do?

I agree that the coin has been cleaned. In my collection I usually deduct a grade for that, so I'd call your coin XF.

I still think it's a good looking coin and I would be happy to add it to my collection.
