I found this today, loose and without any notes.
What can you tell me based upon these poor photos?

I'm gonna say VG Details. Corrosion. Not a bad looking coin really.

When you say you "found" it, do you mean you forgot you had it or you found it found it?

I would say G-6 details with some minor environmental damage. Still a very attractive coin. Did you dig it up in the back yard? :O

It's always nice to rediscover a coin you forgot you had. I've done that with a few coins of my own.

Well at least if someone offers to buy it "I paid more for it than that" would be a bogus excuse....it always is a dumb answer anyway.

rounded cheek, a little break in the hairband and surrounding hair, lower third of hair has decent detail and separation, weakness in strike. this is a decent coin in the VG8 range. it would get a details(ED) designation but not bad at all.

Agree VG details (ED) but quite decent.

I did not "dig this coin up" and it did not come from a relative. I probably bought it just to have a 200 year old coin and probably paid about $10 for it.
I remember years ago buying a Canadian Dollar for $25 and
another coin from the same dealer's bargain box for $0.25. It keeps the hobby exciting for me.

You all seem to agree that this cent is "not bad."
That makes it ""2x2" worthy!
Can any of you supply an attribution?
I hate to ask but what would be a reasonable fair market value?
Thanks for your help.

The pictures are unfortunately unclear for a 100% certain attribution. However,
I'm reasonably sure it is Sheldon 84, R-3.

Grade-wise I would say Vg to F details, and then discount for the planchet quality which is difficult to gauge in these pictures.

I HAVE to ask, (and I hate doing so)...
is the Cent worthy to be third party graded?

Well, it will come back in a details holder. If your planning on selling it, maybe. I'm gonna say it is worth somewhere around $250-300. It is sitting on the bubble of TPG worthiness IMO. Personally, I would not send it in. I'm sure others would disagree.

jpbone, as I am not a copper collector I only bought this
to have a coin dated in the 1700s. I would not have paid very much or it.
I understand your fence sitting. It's up to me to decide, "Keep or Sell."
I'll keep your advice in mind.

I think it's a very acceptable example for the year.
