I have a 1926 Lincoln Wheat cent that is silver in color with a normal weight of 3.1 g. Is it plated? Was there a promo or company that sold silver plated 1926 pennies, or another possibility of what this may be? Thanks!!

Did you test it, probably a chemistry experiment unless it is silver, it's a spender

Mercury is not plated. It is rubbed on to the surface on a coin and is toxic. On the ime of the edge, I can see the copper showing on that area. Just a plated coin. Just a Wheat cent now. No premium to a true coin collector as the surface is altered.

Plated coin. Can't rule out there being a few collectors 'out there' who are interested in collecting plated coins. No universal appeal, that's for sure.

Looks to be nickel plated.
Nickel plating is more resistant to developing an oxide/sulfide patina.

Agree, nickel plating is a good guess.

It does look nickel plated, I thought at first planchette error but weighs right. It is very shiny!
