Hi Guys and Girls
I've recently come across this coin and am struggling to identify it, any help would be great

size 24mm
weight 3.15grams
gothic lettering,
been researching for days and have narrowed it down to 14th/15th/16th century either France, Germany or Spanish Netherlands, but I feel that I may be barking up the wrong money tree

struggling to make out the moneyer lettering and the central image pattern is obscured but after some gentle cleaning with a tooth brush and some luke warm water the lettering is becoming more apparent, also filtering the image on a smart phone has helped too

any help would be greatly received

@tfm, first welcome to CCF. Second, it would be helpful to see a pic of the other side of this coin. Please add it to this thread when you have a chance.

I'm pretty sure that your coin comes from the German Bishopric of Würzburg based on that unusual monogram in the center. I have a late 15th Century Pfennig with a similar design (see below). Yours is clearly a much larger denomination, but hopefully this gives you a good starting point.

Thanks buddy, led me straight where I needed to go, Bishopric of Wurzburg, Leronz von Bibra c.1495-1519, cant find an identical coin but the size and weight would suggest its a Heller, more than likely a 4 Groten coin or a Double Patard rather than a schilling, found a very interesting publication on google books
