*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! ***Hello all, I'm agonizing over a shiny thing once again: specifically wondering if this has been cleaned or otherwise messed with or whether this is just an unusual toning pattern. Off the way the lettering stands out... The detail in the obverse is hard to find in this particular year in my experience at least, It's not cheap but it's not insanely expensive either.

I don't think those little scratches are hairlines from a harsh cleaning but...well...thinking hard here.

Looks good to me. I don't see any evidence of a cleaning, unless it was long ago. VF30 (maybe ef40 on a good day)

Doesn't look cleaned (polished) to me but may have been dipped previously like Silverwolf mentioned and has re-toned unevenly

EF40 Unusual toning IMO, who knows how it's been stored over the last century and a half. Why agonize? If you are not comfortable don't buy it. Collecting should be enjoyable.

@DBM - I agree! It's all about what you enjoy. There was a self-help book I once saw (but didn't read) called "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff". I'm the opposite - more of a "Let's Lose it Over Minutiae" type....

Silver101, I hear the sequel was pretty good, too: "It's All Small Stuff." Lovely coin...seems to be aspiring to tfred's avatar from New Brunswick. I like it at nEF, for sure.

Absolutely beautiful. I don't see any signs of a cleaning. Looks to be AU in my opinion, but toning makes it hard to tell. Its a good strike anyways!

Thanks very much everyone - very helpful input as always. I talked the guy down a little ($240 USD) and it's now on it's way. Hope you're all staying well out there!
