I rarely do upgrades, but my LCS got an UNC 1923 $1 Silver Certificate. So I sold this one: And got this one: I know many would have said I should have gotten the 2nd one first, but I lost $0 on the sale, so I held a note for a year and got a better one a year later.

Excellent upgrade on the 1923 Silver Certificate! Quote: CoinFrog once told me that when he started collecting currency he sold off a lot of his coins, and I do agree that notes are addicting (but I still like coins). I've done a bit of that, but mainly selling off some subsets of my coin collection where I've lost interest to fund additional purchases in my main collections. I still consider myself primarily a U.S. type coin and classic commemorative collector, but I have to admit (as you said) that notes are definitely addicting!

Thanks Hokie!
I've recently sold off coins also but instead of getting for my type set, I actually got bullion. With todays prices I paused the type set. I'll go back when the prices are more reasonable .

About a year and a half ago, on another forum there was a post about a note that was way underpriced. While the majority stated that you would buy a note priced wrong and not give it a 2nd thought, I felt that wasn't the right thing to do. In the end I was way way in the minority. So what does that have to do with this post. Well when the chance presented itself to me, I did the same thing I didn't think was the right thing to do. I didn't even need this note for my type set, but the price was really really low. Yes the margins are wonky, and the grade questionable, but again crazy low price. I placed the order and would have been totally understanding if the vendor canceled it, but no, the Vendor realized his mistake and honored his price and shipped. First the packaging had cool stamps, there is even a 13 cent IHC stamp. And the note.

Seems like a really common note in most any grade - what's the deal?

Some doofus paid $40 or so to get this graded. The grading companies depend on these comical submissions for their survival.

I'd value it at less than the grading fee.

Good. If someone showed me this note raw, I wouldn't even make an offer.

Probably part of a bulk submission hoping for a portion to be worthwhile.
