Are 1901 Philly Morgans usually unattractive with poor strike? I have been searching awhile and what I am generally finding is poor strike and poor eye appeal , I should say in my AU53/55 price range. Am I just having bad luck ?

AU53 seems to have the worst luck for eye appeal, at least in my experience. AU55 is a bit better, but depending on the price increase you're probably better off saving a bit more and looking for an AU58 example.

1901 is a rough date for AU and MS for Morgans. I have an Au53 1901 (ex PCGS) and it's not bad but even MS coins for 1901 are rough and dull.

Pretty huge jump in price at AU-58 for that date. Got to be patient to find the right mid-AU coin.

I'd agree that 1901 generally come flat and lifeless. I have a decent AU53 VAM3 Doubled reverse, but it's still only a flat gray silver with little to no luster, and the strike is only average. An exceptional 1901 Morgan will command an exceptional price.

Not sure if it is OK to post vendor links but, if so, this one looks quite nice for the grade. https://www.davidlawrence.com/rare-coin/2030612

That one is nice. If you find a better one - many dealers will let you swap if you include some cash. Good luck on your hunt!
