I'm relatively new to coin roll hunting, and the only denominations I've searched have been a couple boxes of quarters and three boxes of pennies, but I'm interested to hear what people's best finds have been. My best quarter find is probably a 2016 Homestead DDO-104, and my best penny find is a 1996 DDO-001 (link to the thread in my signature). Is it still possible to find really major varieties for older coins like a 1972 DDO-001, or have these basically been all picked out by now?

Hmm...

For cents the best variety I've found would be this: http://goccf.com/t/338764
Pop: 2/1

Nickels I never found any after a hundred boxes, so I gave up.

Dimes probably a tubes worth of the 1970 P&D transitional reverses. Not rare at all and I'd get around 10 per box. I'd sell them at $5 a pop in average circ so it covered the cost of gas.

Quarters would be a 1965 Type C

Halves would be a 1967 FS-103 in AU

Dollars would be a AU cheerios dollar

Wow, nice finds, GrapeCollects! Yes, I've been kind of avoiding nickels and dimes since they seem to be pretty tough hunting from everything I've heard. The cheerios dollar is a very cool one!

Now I don't normally hunt for varieties, but I've found a couple nonetheless. Just recently I scored an "In God We Rust" Kansas Quarter Greaser, nothing special though since it was a little beat up. My greatest find was a 1979 Wide Rim SBA from a few months back.

Nice. Also since you mailed it in for grading you provide proof that you can get a MS grade coin from coin roll hunting. Earlier threads have argued that no MS coins can be found from CRH. Maybe this puts and end to the debate! Congratulations on the nice find.

Heard those arguments before. While this argument may have been valid forty years ago when the cent and coins saw larger usage, they don't anymore. But, I digress.

I think the zincoln era kind of ended that as well, no? The zincolns don't really wear the way copper cents used to. Once they get below about XF45 they become details coins and rot out. I've seen plenty of examples of high MS grade coins found in circulation.

99% of my searching was nickels and halves. I'm an advocate for nickel searching as Buffaloes and War Nickels are still routinely found. My best variety find was this DDR.
