Got a good price on this a while back, thought I'd share. The fact that someone damaged it is a shame. Still a cool piece I thought.

Hi,

I hope Mike D. takes a look at this one. I don't want to say one way or the other but something just hits me about this coin that I can't place a finger on that makes me uneasy about its authenticity.

I am not saying that it is a fake and I'm not trying to rain on the coin and it could be totally legit but It just feels funny somehow.

Thanks,
Bill

It looks like it circulated for quite some time, kinda strange for such an obvious error.

Thanks foundinrolls for the concerns. I bought it from a reputable dealer at the Long Beach Coin Expo. I believe it is the real deal but I would love to have Mike comment.

I would think that the collar would not be showing on a off center strike.

I will admit I thought it was strange to see the impression of the collar. I'd love to hear more opinions!

That's a very interesting coin!
Out of curiosity, I found another off-center 1916 for comparison (taken off Heritage).

Thanks KurtS! Looks like you can see the collar on that one too. TreasHunt, I will probably submit to ANACS at Santa Clara.
