I found this hunting some change, and while I am used to the common Grease Filled Dies and whatnot on the dimes, this still caught my eye.

There is noticeable weakness around the IGWT area and the LIBERTY area, which is accompanied by some unformed rims. I don't think it's damage considering the reverse is not affected.

The edge corresponding to the affected area shows a considerably smaller reeding size than the normal unaffected edge that is on the rest of the coin.

Weight is 2.1 grams-slightly underweight. Maybe I'm just looking too deep into this one.

Thanks for taking a look!

I really don't know if this is anything much at all. If it does happen to be an error, it might be a very slight tapered planchet.

Yes I think that it could be a thin planchet.

I guess I was looking to deep into this one. Thanks folks! I think what fooled me into thinking it was more than a tapered planchet is that the reverse was unaffected. My other tapered planchets are all affected on both sides of the coin.

Just the rim is altered. Someone playing around in the garage. They didn't look like that when they were struck. There was an issue on the 1985 dimes that was found on most the dimes that year. But if you find just one, chances are it is a garage job. If the planchets were really thinned, then the design would be weak. If it is missing the clad, the design would be year. If someone alters a coin, the design would be weakened. (Someone trying to create a mint error) What do they do when they get through torturing the coin, spend it.

Lol! I've often thought about doing that and seeing how long it takes to come back around.
