It could be nickel-plated as that would make it weakly attracted to a magnet. Did you drill that hole or was it that way when you found it?

The plating and the hole cancels the premium the altered coin would bring. Only only surfaces are what collectors want. Rubes buy them, but they won't get back what they paid extra for.

Appears someone prepared the coin for use as a charm or pendant--plate the coin and drill a hole. Coins are versatile!
