On Tuesday, certain classes of retail establishments can re-open (if they want of course), which includes coin shops:

They need a street entrance, and have to practice various guidelines like face shields for the employees and limits to how many can be in the shop at one time.

So at least one in my city will be opening.

More and more people are shopping on line for just about everything , coins included .
The death knell of the LCS could well be on us along with many other forms of retail .

I am sure that the face of retail will change quite a lot. How, I just don't know.

Hard to say - I would general prefer to hold something in my hand before buying (unless it's a highly trusted person on the other end of the deal). And there are lots of ebay dealers who have no returns policy. I general try to avoid those guys but sometimes it's impossible. And yes, like most people I suspect, I've been burned as a result!

Which has a more dim future - the shops or the big shows? Or maybe they'll both carry on?

We're about to enter a new and different world.
Opening the economy is opening Pandora's box.
"Normal" is gone no matter how we go about ending lockdowns.
The LCS as we know could be on the verge of extinction, same with coin shows.
It will likely be a number of years before a new "normal" is established.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

So another words life as we know it will be gone . Everything we are used to doing will be changed in various ways , Family vacations , Going to a theater or concert, and at least a thousand other things we won't be able to do or go for maybe years or more . And yes our coin shops and Shows won't be the same especially in New York ,USA .

Local shops have been in steady decline for years. Most that remain have shifted into "cash for gold" type operations.

The local coin shows are still rather strong. The last major change was more than a decade back, going from three to two times a year. I was lucky that the "Spring" show was in mid February (when I bought my Seated dollar).

Local coin shows used to be the greatest place for me. Used to have several of them every Month. Now nothing. No shows, no stores, however, stores that sell Liquir are still going strong.

The future doesn't have to be as bleak as we may think .
Years ago I had a bricks and mortar coin shop ( 1985 to 1997 )
The evolution I witnessed then was amazing . Started out great retail
for the first 3 years or so . Then mint bullion and bars came along.
Around the end of the 1980s , the coin market came to a grinding halt .
So all the shops evolved into selling sports cards which became 80 per cent
of our business . We also started buying scrap gold and silver in the shop ,
something unthinkable just a few years earlier .
After the sports card craze ended , we noticed the coin market remained poor
except there were now people buying quality and using coins as an alternative place to put money .
Then came the Internet craze and the end of the 1990s was the beginning of the bricks and mortars
closing . Virtually the only reason anyone would have a shop today is for the ability to BUY .
I have to agree with some of the above posters who state that we may see the demise of both
Shops and Coin shows . Today selling online is second nature to many ( us included ) and
ebay , Etsy , ones own website and other platforms are the new and safe way to buy coins .

@Pacificoin - I like it. Clear eyed and forward looking but also realistic. Fingers crossed that the opening up, whatever form it takes, is slow but smart.
