I think you nailed it. It looks like a VLDS strike to me. Wow!

But there's a point missing. Why does it look like this. The reverse area behind the torch is the atprea affected by Feeder Finger Damage. That event caused the beginning of the end for this die. The break down on the die is from the over polishing. So rather than toss the dies, they altered the dies to strike a few more coins. Because no one will notice. But we do.
