1944 LWC Fat Date - VLDS?

This is not the normal "fatness" you see on these dates. It isn't like the regular DDOs you find with the elongated 9, and the fat tail.

I'm not saying this is doubling, just curious what caused it for future purposes, just so I don't run into this again thinking something else caused it.

My guess is circulation or a Very Late Die State.

But this coin may have been a DDO, when it was struck? Note the verticals on the right side of the '44'. They are angled.
