1911 $5 Counterfeit? - Coin Community Forum

MasterKromm Valued Member United States 110 Posts	Posted 06/03/2020 11:23 pm He guys, I stumbled across this 1911 $5 Indian, it is mounted(damaged) in a bezel and has a 14k chain too I am thinking of buying it as a gold play... But the reverse seems quite off to me. That said, the photograph of the coin is very small, maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me. Any insight would be much appreciated. Otherwise, I would pass. I would only buy it if the gold tests good and you can get the deal below melt value. Others may have a different opinion. Report this Post to the Staff

sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21786 Posts	Posted 06/04/2020 08:09 am Remove the coin from the bezel, and and check for weight. Should be XRF'ed for 90% Au. Buy it at 14K for total weight. The coin is most probably damaged by the bezel mount. Best kept for jewelry. If the coin is kept by itself, what would you do with the empty bezel?
