I just saw someone else post one of these. I was aware that the variety existed, but assumed there was no premium since it isn't color-coded on variety vista to indicate a scarcity above common. I happened to have a 1970 dime on the desk next to me, so I checked it when I saw the other post, and I believe it's RDV-002 (reverse of 68). Did I identify it correctly? Are these actually worth anything?

Correct, you have one.

The coin itself is pretty beaten up. So the value, based on ebay auctions, $5 maybe.

What are the odds! Literally one of 5 dimes I happened to have on my table as just loose change I was going to check for doubled dies lol.

I'm still a little suspicious of it though - why are these not listed on variety vista as scarce if they're worth $5 in well-circulated condition? Can anyone offer any insight?

That I don't know. They are listed on NGC and PCGS however.

Someone else might be able to offer insight.

Did a search on the forum, and it seems like an example of a relatively common coin being overhyped by inclusion in the CPG. Coop has posted in a few threads before saying basically they don't (or at least shouldn't) carry much of a premium in circulated condition. That feels right based on my own experience of the first 1970 I had on hand being this variety. Compare with other ~$5 RDVs like a circulated 2000 Wide AM penny, and the odds of a random 2000 you had on the table being a WAM are extremely poor.

That's fair, I understand that. In reality yes they shouldn't be that much. I looked at one of Coop's comments relating to this variety and he mentioned that finding the right buyer is key when selling these things. Yes they can be sold for $5 on ebay, but it can be quite difficult finding the right buyer. I would keep it either way.

Sounds good. Maybe I'll start a tube of these rather than 2x2 if I'm gonna find them this easily lol

Good idea, do what you wish. Had the same thought process today when I was going through a roll of 1961 D cents. Wasn't finding much but then I zoomed in on one of the MM, turned out to be a RPM. I then went through the pile that I already searched through.

I learned that almost all of the roll was full of the same stupid RPM variety. What kinda is a pain however is that it's quite minor. You can see the serifs, but it's still difficult if you don't zoom in.

What bites is that I can't match it. Not sure if it's unlisted or not.

Great find! If anything, it's worth a small premium. It's a keeper.

I understand what everyone is saying about the relative scarcity of this variety, but I've looked through several hundred 1970 dimes in my coin roll searching / Dansco filling days and I've yet to stumble across one of these. I'd certainly hold on to it.

I would think a BU coin would be worth a premium, but not si in less than uncirculated condition.
