After the past five years, where most of my ebay coin money went to making payments on two cars, they are now all paid off and I have some fun money . . . at least for a bit.

To splurge I purchased this lovely 1881-S Morgan which has been graded MS-65 by PCGS. It is the first slabbed MS-65 Morgan I have owned in my fifty years of collecting.

There is some violet toning around the obverse rim and the reverse is an untoned lovely silver. I know it's a very common date but it sure looks nice in my collection.

Congrats! MS-65 is a personal favorite of mine when it comes to Morgan dollars. It balances pleasing eye appeal, and a lack of distracting marks, while also being quite affordable. Owning multiple 66's or 67's is much more expensive. My MS-67 cost a bit over $1k! In retrospect that was a bit high, but I'm not displeased.

Thanks. I thought of going for an MS-66, but 65 is much more friendly to my budget.

The surfaces are wonderfully reflective when tipped and turned in the light. The photos can't capture that.

Congrats! MS66 is cheaper now than 10 years ago, look for a good one
that is cheap. I just picked up a 79-S MS66 PCGS for under $200.

Nice! I'm hoping to get a 67 at some point but they are a bit beyond my budget. Most of my slabbed Morgans are MS-64 but I have a few in 65 and 66 too.
