I picked up a couple of tubes of ASE's recently and noticed what appears to be satin or burnished finish on the 2012 tube. I thought all satin finish ASEs have a W mintmark? Did some get released otherwise. Photos are comparing a typical shine on the 2011 but lacking on the burnished 2012... ?

I can't "really" answer your questions.... BUT I have ASE from 1986 to 2020 and some are shiny and some are satin. No rhyme or reason. I think the satin is just some type of toning inherent in the planchet. Or could be the die state. I can't answer why but I have both, so I doubt its an error. Seems pretty common to me.
