So I've had this for some time now. Found it from coin roll hunting. Back then I just threw it to the side because I figured it wasn't legit. Then I came across a website that said there were copper plates steel experimental coins struck?! The weight it said was 2.8 grams. So I pulled this out of the 2x2 and well it is 2.8 grams. How do I know if legit?

Fake. Sand cast coin. Note the grains on the coin. Seen this before:

I have another question. I've never sent anything off to be graded. But let's say I did send this for fun. Would they slab it and put counterfeit on it or would they toss it? Lol just curious

They would keep your money (grading fees) and return the coin as counterfeit. Don't waste your money. As coop stated, it's counterfeit, and a rather poor one at that. If you'd still want to send it in "for fun" go for it. It'd be a great learning experience for you.

The LCS has at least 3 copper 1943 cents, I'm almost tempted to get them all.

ICG does slab counterfeit/altered coins with a special label for educational purposes.

I think someone copper plated a rusty steel cent. There are truly 10's of thousands of copper plated steel cents out there. Some are well done, some aren't. Sometimes they used new or nearly new steel cents, sometimes they used rusty ones. If they used rusty ones, sometimes they cleaned the rust off, sometimes they didn't.

I agree with Condor1 about it being a replated circulated cent.
