So I have a 1973 D quarter I believe it is. But it has a huge S on Washington's head. Does that mean sample? Or is it a misprint? I haven't seen it online. Or was it done by someone else just to do it.

@dv1, first welcome to CCF. Second, this letter S is a counterstamp that was added to your coin after it left the mint. These sorts of things are called "mavericks" and are essentially impossible to determine who stamped it or why.

Yours is not rare as anyone with an S stamp can make as many as they want
