First time post so I hope I do this correctly. What I have is a question about my 2016 P quarter. The errors in the letters of the words Harper's Ferry, is that considered doubling? I also noticed that on both sides obverse and reverse have a cameo look to it. Is there any value to a coin like this and if so what? Is it worth getting sent off for grading? Thank you so much for your time. I am new to this and have really enjoyed looking for errors in coin's. Edited by 310antiques 06/11/2020 04:58 am

I posted 4 photos but apparently I did something wrong. Like I said I am new and first post so perhaps on I can't see them or I may need help with loading them for information on them.

Thank you John1 for your reply. I have plenty very clear close up photos, however they are well over 300kb load size aloud. I will work on that issue today. I thought about attaching my eye loop to my phone . Being my first time ever on a forum, starting from ground zero learning.

Use the free image optimizer here on CCF. You can buy a clip on magnifier for cheap to clip onto your phone. John1

Dorado thank you for the welcome to the forum and community. I am really enjoying learning the history and knowledge of our U.S Currencies. I am already in the Vintage and Antique market. I have been in it and owned a business selling furniture and home decor for many years, however that market is multinational history learning. It's easy to get lost for hours looking at just a few coins for errors.

Thank you John1 for your help. I hope these show up. If so although Harper's Ferry is blurry because of the doubling, you can clearly count each brick on the building near the letters.

To clarify John1's comment, DDD is Die Deterioration Doubling. As the die ages, the devices degrade causing them to give the appearance of doubling as they migrate towards the rims of the design. It is fairly common, and doesn't carry any premium.

On the incuse devices, die polishing weakens the sharpness of the devices removing the tapered part of the device. So the devices will be enlarged from die polishing the doubling often seen on the incuse devices are caused also by Machine Doubling 70% of the time. No listing are legit for the ATB outer circle devices that are legit doubled dies. The DDR's are on the central areas of the designs. Not on the outer ring areas.

John1 and all thank you so much for clarifying that for me. As I said in the beginning, I am new to collecting and currency knowledge. I will move forward getting better viewing equipment for clear still images. Having asthma and shaking hands makes it a bit hard right now lol. I do have some nice coins dating as far back as 1883, however I believe the digital microscope I'm ordering will help tremendously. I've got buckets full and plenty with errors I can see with my eye loop, but I will wait till proper equipment can be used for photo's. Thanks a lot again so much for your help and thank you for this forum because I've followed it for some time now before finally registering. I will be seeing you all again very soon with many more examples.

What make and model scope are you getting? All the scopes will have a lighting issue,so practice-practice-practice. John1
