I'm trying to find a silver commemorative medal of Carl Friedrich Gauss that a family member sold here in 2014. They buyer reportedly had the bronze version as well. The medal, a family heirloom, has sentimental value and was sold without our knowledge. I am searching for the buyer in an attempt to buy it back. It has two deep scratches on the backside that my husband carved into it when he was a child.

@mimas, first welcome to CCF. Second, when I use the search box with the keywords GAUSS MEDAL, I see at least one thread with this medal. Here is a link: http://goccf.com/t/75162Added: ok I see where someone else has been looking for this medal previously (@grenada). Is that also you? Also, pls remember the CCF rules on buying and selling.

Yes that's the medal- and no, I'm not the other person looking for it. I suspect that's the person who sold it originally.

to CCF. I think this is a matter for one of the MODS or Bobby to handle. John1

(@grenada) seems to be the person who sold it, but they sold it on ebay so the only hope of finding it here is if the person who bought it sees this post.

The individual who sold it says they found the buyer through this forum, but that the platform they used to actually sell it was ebay. Yes, I recognize the odds of finding it may be small, but I have to try.

...And aside from this forum, I'm not sure where else to post or how else to go about searching for the medal. So if anyone has ANY suggestions on that please share!

grenada member only had 3 posts. He/she was breaking CCF rules on buy/sell/trade. John1

I'm not looking to punish/embarrass the individual who sold it. I suspect they really needed the money and were too embarrassed to ask us if we wanted to buy it. I'm just trying to get the word out that I will be willing to buy it back for significantly more than what it was sold for.

Oh, If only it were that easy. The person that sold it on ebay was my family member- they do not remember who they sent it to, and apparently are unable to access that information. I've also seen various versions of it sold at auction over the past few years. I've contacted all of the auction facilities in an attempt to locate the buyers. The only thing known about the person who bought ours was that he had a bronze one as well.

I agree with John, hopefully they can find the contact info through their ebay. If you can find the name you can message them directly on there.

@mlm, hmm I'm sorry that it seems like we don't have a quick solution for you, but consider checking in to this thread periodically as it wouldn't surprise me if this piece pops up again here at some point.
