Alrighty folks, my experience with the 1876 NFLD 5c is that finding anything above a F-12 (which this is not) is a rare experience and it's likely to be quite an expensive one too. With some coins in the 5c series I've opted for much lower grades that are problem-free and have some measure of eye appeal. I have been able to acquire all of the 1873 5c this way - generally in the VG-F range. So, what about this? Asking price is a whopping $395 in US dollars. I've badgered the guy down to $250 in USD which is around trend for this particular beastie (depending on what you think the grade is). Any thoughts out there?

Quote: $250 in USD which is around trend for this particular beastie That's about $340 CDN, more than double what trends is for a G-6 example or more than 50% higher than the trend price for a slabbed VG-8. What are you using for a price guide? $340CDN should get you a slabbed F-12.

in that range exactly 6-8 on the Sheldon. So that's got to be a no.

And then there's this tragic thing - scrubbed pretty hard! What are people thinking out there? Asking price is $650 Can.... can't do it.

I'm at G-06 on the first coin. Second coin - scrubbed pretty hard? Looks like an original cameo obverse to me. Where do you see "scrubbing"?

Pictures didn't transfer all that well - if you look closely there's some pretty serious hairlines. It's also graded as XF cleaned by NGC....

The photos make that last one look pretty nice, but not for the price.
Sadly, this coin has eluded me thus far.
Good luck finding one you like!

I'd wait for something better to come along where you feel like you are getting good coin for your $

I cant speak to the price. G6 is my guess. I do look at the coin and grade it myself before looking at what others have said BTW. So I'm pretty unbiased.
