I've seen the dark discoloration pictured below on a number of new quarters. Is this an issue with the coin or is it post mint damage? Given I'm new to this, I'm guessing there is an issue with the planchet. However, I could be wrong.

Black Lines Don't Matter. It's all circulation/post mint damage.

Note on your coin. Both sides are showing the lines in the same direction. So they are left over rolling lines from the stock material. To show the lines are on the planchet, take a look at this partial strike cent:

Note the area in the circle? You can see them stronger on the unstruck area, and weaker on the struck area. But that is what you are seeing on your quarter. Premium, no, but knowing what they are, makes you a professor.

@Coop Thank you for the information. I've been using your lighting tips and am getting better pictures.

Sometimes doing something different by accident, will make you think: "What was different that time?" Figure out what you did differently, then keep the new way of improving the images. Link of it as a happy accident. Questions on something, keep them coming. It look me 15 years to learn, what I can teach now in weeks here. The difference? I just received yes or no answers. (Not the reason they came to their conclusion) I try to help all to see what I see on the images, then they will know what I know.
