Hi, would anybody like to comment on the grade of my 1703 sixpence? Going through my coins and cataloging and sending some away to be slabbed. Does this make a Fine Grade?
Thanks.

Not being a fan of slabbing coins, I do not know for sure how the grading companies will go with that. I suspect they will pick up on the off-centre strike and the heavy wear on parts of the rim.

I would give the obverse just short of Fine, but the reverse a safe Fine if it were going into my own collection.

Thanks for response PaddyB. I think I'll just label this one Fine and keep it as it is.

For comparison, here's an example accurately graded as Fine by London Coin Auctions.

Thanks, the obverse is not as good as that one but the reverse seems similar.

VG-10 would be my guess.

Agree with Hogarth and IndianGold Eagle.

The Obverse - just above VG and reverse is close to fine, some great detail.

Overall gVG - aFine.

Nice and interesting piece!

10: obv + 12: rev = 10: overall at TPG

Perhaps I'm a bit late on this, but this is a shilling unless I'm very much mistaken. Agree with the grading though, average is fine, obv a bit under rev a little better.

The London coins people are tough graders, that coin is close to VF I would say, at least gFine.

I agree with Tatton, that coin looks bigger than a 6d and more like a shilling.

I agree P. If shown those London Coin photos without knowing the grade assigned I would have said Good Fine too, and a strong one at that.
The OP coin though has too much wear for Fine. It's Fair obv. Near fine rev.
