This 1896-P has the beginnings of some serious cracking to come in later die states.
I know that die cracks can be used as pick up spots for VAM's, but can die cracks by themselves make a VAM?
I don't see any VAM listed for 1896-P that identifies all the cracks on this one.
There's one that's very noticeable from the wreath through the O of ONE to the rim.
One runs along the tops of all the letters UNITED. Along the tops of all the letters in STATES and hits the rim above the O in OF. Then along the tops of ERIC in AMERICA.

I tried to get good images of them all with the iPhone but it's a challenge through the PCGS slab.

Do these die cracks increase it's value at all?

This *might* be a VAM2. Please check the date and the 6. The die cracks
by themselves are not going to be listable IMO. If not V2, I'd try to ID
it by date position.

suipakpaikungfu, it DOES have the doubling of the 6, so based on that it's a VAM2, but I don't see any reference to the reverse die cracks in the VAM2 write-up. Are they just incidental and may or may not be present on the VAM2?

Thank you very much for your help.

Gincoin43, you think this is a VAM 6?
What markers are you seeing that makes it a 6?

I am not sure it is a VAM 6 but it seems very close.
It would help to have closer pictures of the date but it seems to be a near date rather than the very near date of a VAM 2. It seems to have the same displaced fields and die cracks as Vam6a but I cannot see the Clash that is the marker for that one. There is also the 6b that is listed as a tilted date that supposedly occurs before Vam6a.
Rest in Peace

Thank you all for your input. I'm labeling this as a VAM 6.
