Aren't there laws about defacing US coins?

With intent to defraud. Adding a mintmark, or shaving off silver, for example.

but they include a certificate of authenticity....

It never occurs to people that the easiest part of the deal to fake would be the cetificate of authenticity.

I have an autograph of LBJ with a COA. It's on state of Ohio letterhead, signed by the secy of state. Now THAT's a COA.

I'll stick with my "politically incorrect" obama 50 cent note that a friend of mine made and printed off his computer! Probably will be worth more 10 years from now! ;)

Whenever I get an offer with a "postage paid" envelope, I just put some used toilet paper in it and mail it back.

The certificate of authenticity is for 'the actual coins'the US Mint minted and nothing else.
After that these companies deface these "COA" coins and IMO are no longer considered COA . Don't you think?
