I just picked this one up. I believe it is struck on a Dominican republic 10 centavos planchet. the weight is 2.51 grams.

Very cool!

Are you going to slab it?

I probably won't slab it. I have never stabbed a coin before although I have a growing list of items worthy of slabbing.

I agree on the value. Unless you put it in a PCGS slab, I see little value in the slab. The value of the certification is offset by the impact on the ability to weigh, test magnetism properly etc. I would leave it alone.

No need to slab it, unless you wish to have it independently graded for selling.

Considering it's potential value you may wish to
enclose it in a piece stiff folded acrylic sheet, cut from food packaging, then put in a normal 2x2 cardboard Mylar flip.

I agree; I have all of my foreign planchet strikes in CCCS hard slabs.
Makes it much easier to sell (if that day ever comes!) if potential buyers know it's been authenticated.

That has to be the most well struck beaver I have ever seen on a pre-1990 nickel. Nice piece.

It looks well struck and mint state. I bet it would fetch north of $300 in an auction uncertified. If I was selling this coin, I'd send it to PCGS with the source planchet attribution, and would probably get $400 for it.

thanks for all of the replies. I was hoping its value would be more than $200 so I am pleased!

I bought several errors from a very well known and reputable dealer but I was surprised on a couple of his prices... this coin for $125 and an off center (maybe 10% off center) 1977 5 cent for $125. I didn't buy the off center 1977 because I thought he was way high on it. and I thought he was way low on this coin so I grabbed it!
