From everything I have read, this penny seems to fit the specs. The lettering is much clearer than any other 1964 penny I own. There is clear separation from the rim of the coin to the letters. And the edge seems crisp. I don't know.... what do you think

It is a well struck early die stage business strike. Not an SMS. Here is a die marker for the SMS.

Not the carbon spot but the scratches that run north and south at the vest.

To find one in the wild is a pipe dream. The dies that struck these coins were fresh dies. Some markers are known on these coins. But the VEDS would need to be present. Your coin is showing die age. These were made and put into sets. The ones who received them are ones who would keep them in tact. So looking for these is probably a waste of time to find them in the wild. (I even question that they shouldn't even be owned, as the mint never released these for sale)
