twood89 Valued Member United States 278 Posts	Posted 07/06/2020 12:26 pm This appears to be an ancient Indian coin to me. There is a mounted horseman on the obverse and script on reverse. It weighs 2.7g and is approx. 18mm in diameter. Any identification help would be greatly appreciated. If possible, directions to a relevant catalogue or catalogue # would be most appreciated. Kushanshah Pillar of the Community United States 1554 Posts	Posted 07/06/2020 8:05 pm It's similar to the Kaykhusraw coin but it's actually an extremely rare fals of Malikshah II ibn Qilij Arslan. Note the 2nd figure in the field behind the horseman. The reverse reads: Abu'l-Fateh / Malikshah bin / Qilij Arslan. Album 1195 (RRR). I'm confused as to why I cannot find mention of a Malikshah ii on Wikipedia as ruling the Rum Sultanate. Do you have any historical context on Malikshah's reign? And also how much do you think this coin is actually worth, I see some similar types selling for $400+, are these inflated or am I missing something. I literally paid around $4 for this coin, so if it is really worth that much I am pretty hyped! Report this Post to the Staff
Kushanshah Pillar of the Community United States 1554 Posts	Posted 07/06/2020 8:29 pm This Malik Shah was a local prince. Note that the title Sultan does not appear on the coin. According to Album, "Several of the sons of Qilij Arslan II received the right to produce coinage in their own names within their appanages". If you don't have a copy of Album's Checklist, he recently made it available as a free pdf download at his website stevealbum.com. Regarding value, I would expect you'd need to spend at least $100 to replace it. $400 seems optimistic. Keep an eye on the little green spots. Kushanshah Pillar of the Community United States 1554 Posts	Posted 07/06/2020 8:41 pm I would just watch the spots for now. Keep the coin away from humidity. If you see the spots growing, you may need to treat the coin for bronze disease. It has been discussed here many times I think. Report this Post to the Staff
