I went to the bank yesterday and obtained several Kennedy half dollars in hopes of catching some silver. I did not find any silver but one of the 1989 pieces had a flat edge where the others had reeded edges. What do you make of this?

thanks,

tjmdo

This is very common. I have heard several people call them casino coins saying the reeding was flattened from when the casinos used them for the slot machines.

I wondered the same thing until was recently told they were used in slot machines.

I have run across several with no reeding, but didn't bother to keep them.

Not created for the casinos. And I don't believe altered purposefully by the casinos. But caused by the process of being in a casino.
